#Workation

If I could choose a Workation, I’d relocate to the Shetland island of Fair Isle for a month to try to learn their very distinctive Fair Isle knitting technique in its traditional setting.

The principal activity on Fair Isle is ‘crofting’ but knitting is a very important source of income for the women of the islands who sell it Worldwide.

Fair Isle knitting gained considerable popularity when the Prince of Wales wore Fair Isle jumpers in public in 1921. Traditional Fair Isle patterns have a limited palette of five or so colours, use only two colours per row, are worked in the round, and limit the length of a run of any particular colour.

A residential knitting course on Fair Isle is on my Bucket List!
