I always budget and have actually kept my budgets from 2018 and I saw a sharp increase in food prices. A bottle of 2l Sunflower oil used to be R35 and nowadays I get excited whenever I see a catalogue advertising it for R49

Prices went up severely and people's earnings stagnated or went down. How long such companies will last now is a good question. How many people can still afford to regularly buy their products? I think that 'choking' the masses of lesser income folks that would have bought their products is a mistake. The well off and rich won't buy more than usual and some of them are still conservative about spending (reason why they became rich) and won't buy. I am happy that I make my own condiments - from mayo to tomato sauce, chili sauces, salad sauces and then I also know what is in there and surely no artificial ingredients nor chemical preservatives, etc. And it cost a fraction of the price of the products on the shelves.
